Mountains Looking Good

The skiing season has arrived and almost all mountains in New Zealand have opened for tourists and locals. Here are a few mountains that are looking good for skiers at present.

North Island Mountains

Whakapapa and Turoa had its Madi-gras last weekend and which was a major success. Whakapapa at the moment has a base of 60cm of snow
Turoa at the moment has a base of 80cm
The weather forecast for the week ending sunday 11th July at Turoa and Whakapapa is not good, snowing and bad visibility however if you get a good day up there it would be amazing as not many skiers and boarders have skied on the slopes yet!

South Island Mountains

Cardrona- (Wanaka) is looking pretty fantastic at the moment with a solid 75cm base of snow.
The forecast for the mountain is good throughout the week however on Thursday and Friday the weather will temporarily pack. The week will end on a high with good weather on saturday and sunday

Treble Cone- (Wanaka) isn't looking too flash at the moment. The home basin is open with a base of only 40cm and the Saddle basin is also open with a base of 64cm.
As you can see the home basin is in need of a bit more snow. The weather for the week is looking good up until Friday when it packs in temporarily for the day.

Mt Hutt- (Christchurch) has got a spectacular amount of snow. a base of 125cm and 15cm of fresh snow. The forecast for the week ending sunday the 11th July is not looking good at all however get up there when you can and ski the amazing snow. Mount Hutt also has some amazing deals on at the moment so get onto their website and check them out.

Coronet Peak- ( Queenstown) has just recently had 30cm of new snow so is pristine skiing at the moment. The base is about 85cm thick so is a solid base to work with. The weather forecast for the week average with some cloud up until Thursday and Friday when it really pack in. The week finishes well with a sunny saturday and sunday.

Overall i think your best mountain to ski at would be Mount Hutt because of the amazing snow it would have. The south face would be amazing at present. I think you'd get most skiing in at one of the southern Mountains, probably Coronet peak or Cardrona.

Hope all skiing goes well this week.
Cheers guys.
